Obituary

Alvis Ray Barrington, 74, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana.  He will be remembered for his high energy, big heart and willingness to help others.

Alvis was born May 8, 1951, in Ashdown, Arkansas, to Millard and Bertha Barrington. In 1982 he married Helen Chinnock in Biloxi, Mississippi.  In 1983 the couple moved to Slidell.

He served in and was honorably discharged from the Louisiana Air National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He worked in a number of different industries throughout his career. He was retired from the film industry as a propmaker and member of IATSE 478.

He had a passion for all things automotive. He had a special passion for car models. He collected, built, showed and competed with car models. He loved going to the various model shows and competitions. His car model friends range from the east coast to the west coast as well as across the Atlantic Ocean. He was always planning the next build for the next show. He learned to use a lathe and milling machine to make car model parts from scrap aluminum. He loved sharing his knowledge and his passion for them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Barrington, his mother, Bertha Barrington, and a sister, Alice McMurtrey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Helen Barrington; three daughters, Jodie Burlett, Julianne Davis (Charles Sabella), Jillian Kamm (Christopher); siblings, Dale Barrington, Hazel Loflin, Jimmy Barrington; six grandchildren, Mason Davis, Tyler Burlett, Brooke Burlett, Madison Sabella, Brielle Burlett, Eleanor Kamm; and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Slidell, 4141 Pontchartrain Drive, Slidell LA 70458, on Friday, October 3, 2025.

The visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.
