Obituary

Annie Louise Mire Wolcott, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the age of 95.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius Mire and Jane Elizabeth Mire; four siblings, Julius "Shine" Mire, Karl "Buck" Mire, Iola Watlington, and Iris Fabacher; as well as her eldest son, Claude B. "Bo" Wolcott, Jr.  She is survived by three children, Tim Wolcott, Beth Wolcott, and Ann Badon (Tim Badon), seven grandchildren whom she adored, Travis, Laura, Matthew, Ben, Annie, Hank, and Madison; and six great grandchildren of whom she was most proud.

A graduate of LSU with a master's in mathematics, Mrs. Wolcott taught math for over 30 years at Slidell High School. She loved Slidell High, was a well-respected teacher, and was part of the backbone of the faculty, serving as Chairman of the Mathematics Department. After leaving the classroom, she was employed by St. Tammany Parish School Board as a Mathematics Curriculum Specialist.  She then taught at Pearl River Junior College part time for three years, after which she retired to enjoy time with her family and friends.

Annie was a proud native Slidellian, raised above J. A. Mire Grocery and Hardware Store (1916) on Carey Street that was owned and operated by her parents. She adored her siblings as well as her many nieces and nephews that grew up in "The Store" with her.   Her best friend while she was growing up, also a native Slidellian, would eventually become her husband of 62 years, Claude Behnke Wolcott, Sr., who passed away in 2013, at age 84.  Together they had four children, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

She was an avid LSU fan, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.  She lived life to the fullest, remaining sociable, sharp-minded, and witty right up until her last day, which was three weeks prior to her 96th birthday. Annie passed away peacefully in her sleep in the same house in which she raised her family and lived for over 60 years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
