August J. "Augie" Paretti III, 85, a longtime resident of Metairie and, since 2004 of Slidell, Louisiana, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, October 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 27, 1940, to August Paretti Jr. and Vivian Paretti. He was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
He attended The University of New Orleans (LSUNO) in its inaugural year where he began dating and married his childhood friend and the love of his life, Sondra Lea Polo. Together they shared 64 years of marriage, building a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and service.
August was a 32-year veteran of the 214th EIS LA Air National Guard where he attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
He was a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found his greatest joy in time spent with his family. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Veva Tomeny, Billie Ward, and Sandra Conners.
Augie is survived by his beloved wife Sondra Paretti; his three children, Scott Paretti (Kim), Gregg Paretti (Julie), and Shawn Paretti (Kenta); seven grandchildren, Jourdon Paretti, Gabriel Paretti, Amelia Paretti, Sarah Guth, Shawn Paretti II, Megan Pichon, and Jacob Paretti; and three great-grandchildren, Evelyn Guth, August Guth, and Robert Pichon. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Arty Polo (Linda) and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd, Slidell, LA 70461, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
