Barbara Romano Boihem, 89, of Slidell, Louisiana, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this world peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in the loving presence of her family. Born in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 7, 1936, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Lucas Romano and Juliet Bartholomew Romano. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love, grace, and joy.

Barbara was a beacon of warmth and kindness, known for her ability to light up any room with her presence. Her laughter and gentle spirit brought comfort and happiness to those around her, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her love for sewing and quilting was not just a hobby but an art form through which she expressed her creativity and care, crafting beautiful keepsakes that her family treasures dearly.

On March 26, 1954, Barbara married the love of her life, Burton Ray Boihem. Together, they shared 66 wonderful years, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their marriage was a remarkable partnership, and some of their happiest times were spent cruising and traveling, weaving stories and laughter into the fabric of their lives.

Barbara's family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her devoted children Sandra Simmons (Jack), Joy Desrochers (Larry), David Boihem (Julie), and Rae Marie Rodriguez (Emilio). Her legacy of love extends to her seven grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild, all of whom carry forward her spirit and values. In addition, Barbara leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.

She is reunited in peace with her husband Burton (Ray), her parents, her sister Frances Romano, her brother Lucas Romano, and her nephew Melvin Prange. Though her passing leaves a void, her family takes solace in the memories of her love and the lessons she imparted.

In honor of Barbara's memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been her 90th birthday, August 7, 2026, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Greater Covington Center, 317 N. Jefferson Ave, Covington LA 70433. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and honoring a life well-lived. The celebration will be held in the Bogue Falaya Hall in the back of the facility.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Barbara's memory to the Dementia Society of America.
