Barbara Gex Gonzales was born March 12, 1943, and passed peacefully on September 2, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edgar H. Gonzales Jr. and together they had 4 children, Christine Ann Cooper, husband Lance, Todd Anthony Gonzales, wife Darolyn, Rachel (Shelly) Pierre, husband William and Keith Anthony Gonzales, wife Monique.

Barbara was born to Benjamin & Mildred Gex and was one of five children. She was preceded in death by her brother Eric Gex and half-brother Benny Gex.  She is survived by her three sisters, Linda Davis, Elaine Gordon and Cynthia Hoffman, husband Kenny.  She also leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law, Vivian Ordone, husband Felix, Blanche Holding, husband Charles, Wilhelmina Boland, husband Lionel, Sister Maria Gonzales SSF., and Sharon Gonzales. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Dorothy Williams, brother-in-law John Gonzales Sr., and brother-in-law Charles Davis Sr.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Barbara's grandchildren included Candice Pierre-Huey, husband Wesley, Danielle Gonzales, Logan Cooper, Alyssa Gonzales, Courtney Pierre, Denise Negrin, Maya Gonzales, Chloe Cooper, Tristan Gonzales and Tripp Gonzales.  Great Grandchildren Jayden Joseph Dominguez, Matthew Pierre Huey, and Romeo Celestino III. Barbara was loved by a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, friends, and family.

Barbara lived for her family and her children. She was the heart of our home and took pride in taking care of everybody and everything.  She was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance along with a few funny remarks which always brought out the laughs to lighten the mood.

She LOVED being a grandmother & she was the BEST, always baking cakes and cookies for them and generally spoiling them rotten.  She also loved to cook for all of them even if she had to prepare many different varieties to cater to each of their tastes.  All the grandkids loved her great big grandma bear hugs, "They were the Best", they would all say.

As a devout Catholic, she loved volunteering her time with the church and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul ministry. She loved to help others in need with everyday essentials or if you just needed a friendly face to listen and a hand to hold. She was also an avid bird watcher, she loved to sit outside and enjoyed watching all the beautiful birds.  Hummingbirds were her all-time favorite. She loved to watch them hover over her many birdfeeders, their tiny size and beautiful colors fascinated her. She also loved football and was always ready to prepare food including a variety of snacks to watch her beloved New Orleans Saints with the family.

Mom was our Greatest teacher of Faith, Love & Compassion. She was our first best friend; she loved deeply and will forever be in our Hearts.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Catholic Funeral Mass at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 58203 Highway 433, Slidell, LA, 70460 on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will follow in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY.

Visitation at the church on Monday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
