Betty Sue Paul Whichard Hooper, age 90, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, in Covington, Louisiana.

Betty Sue Paul was born June 23, 1934, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She was a proud resident of Slidell after marrying her first husband Thomas "Red" Whichard Jr.   She lived an avid life and enjoyed telling stories of her travels and the many trips she had taken; especially flying, skiing in Colorado, dancing, and cruising.

Betty was an active member in her community and politics. She was well known to the Republican Women Party and endorsed many during election times. Betty retired from the Office of Registrar of Voters. She was Queen of Krewe de la Boutte Dominique and a member of the XGL Ladies.  She enjoyed attending church and going to her ladies prayer group, and spending holidays with her family.

She is survived by her sister Gloria Owens of Bogalusa, Louisiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burdette and Hazel Paul; first husband Thomas "Red" Whichard Jr.; second husband, Marion J. "Hoop" Hooper; brother, Billy Paul; and sisters, Pauline Roussell, Janice Breland, and Cynthia Teper, nephews, Arthur "Oppy" Roussell, Tracy Paul, Jeffery Paul, and Buster Willoughby Jr.; and a niece Micki Paul.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell, on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 2:00pm.
