Obituary

Catherine Billie Jean Newbill Giordano, age 88, was called home by the Lord on Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2022 after falling ill almost two years ago.  She was born to parents, Aquilla Jones Newbill Orr and Mathis Newbill on March 19, 1934 in Panama City, FL, but she was a life-long resident of Slidell, LA.  She worked hard her whole life and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Our hearts are broken but we take comfort in knowing she is finally at peace in her heavenly home.

Billie Jean is survived by her two children, Robert "Bobby" W. Giordano and Terri Giordano Ryan (Larry); her grandchildren – Christopher L. Ryan, Shannon Ryan Ritter (Jason), and Cassie M. Giordano; her great grandchildren – Gavin Harvey, Lanna O'Rourke, Brody McDonald, Summer McDonald, Samantha Ritter, and Emily Ritter; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many life-long friends.

Billie Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Nunzio "Nuna" Giordano; both her parents and her stepfather, Hamilton Orr; her sister, Vivian "TeTe" Macklin; her brothers – Robert "Bobby" Newbill, Mathis "Jr." Newbill, Jr, and James "Jimmy" Newbill; and her precious grandson, Kevin P. Ryan.

As a life-long resident of Slidell, Billie Jean was known by many and had a very active social life.  Her house was always filled with family, friends, and great food – she was a wonderful cook.  She enjoyed and was a member of many social clubs around town.  They included the Slidell Women's Civic Club, the Krewe of Slidellians, the Delta Chi & Xi Gamma Lambda chapters of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Wives of the Sons of Italy.  In her later life, she would join friends on trips to the casinos in Mississippi.  She certainly lived life to the fullest and will be terribly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Our thanks go out to the Anvoi Hospices nurses and the many kind nurses and aides who cared for her during her stay at Greenbriar Community Care Center over the last two years.  And a special thanks to her family and dearest friends who visited with her and shared special moments with her during her stay at Greenbriar.
