Bryan passed away peacefully at the age of 79. He was born and raised in New Orleans to Ruby M. Scherer and Merrill Scherer. He is the baby brother of Merrill R. Scherer, Dexter Scherer (Cindy) & Marsha Licali (Don).

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and youngest son, Christopher Scherer. His wife of 43 years, Tami G. Scherer, was there waiting to greet him with open arms.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Scott Scherer (Laurie) and his only daughter, Bryana S. Goodwin (Dane). He is the proud pawpaw B to 5 grandchildren, Ainsley Scherer, Samantha, Andrew, Whitney Scherer, and Delilah Goodwin. He was also known simply as "Uncle Bryan" to many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.

As a resident of the CLC at the VA New Orleans, his biggest smiles came from visits with Bryana & Delilah, probably Delilah more. Those two enjoyed sharing McDonalds French fries and milk. They always ended the visits with high fives and I Love Yous!

Bryan proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He also dedicated more than 24 years of service to the New Orleans Police Department. He approached both roles with honor, courage, and a deep sense of duty.

Outside of his career, Bryan found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved remodeling classic cars, gathering around the table for a good card game, and cooking meals to share. He will be remembered for his hard-working spirit; his love of family and the countless memories he created with those who knew him.

Bryan's legacy lives on through the family he cherished; especially his daughter, who was named after him, the friends whose lives he touched, his example of service, strength and the love he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on July 27, 2026, from 9 AM-12 PM at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell, LA.

Interment will follow at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA, where military honors will be rendered in recognition of his faithful service.
