Carol Adron Istre

Carol Adron Istre, 90, passed away on September 18, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1936, in Morse, Louisiana, to Eugene Istre and Annie Istre.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ybarzabal Istre, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage; his daughter, Melissa Anne Istre; his parents, Eugene and Annie Istre; and his sisters, Lena Istre Hudson and Martha Istre Rocca.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Istre; two daughters, Michelle Hallford and Clarissa Istre; four grandchildren, Ryan Hallford, Casey Hallford, Amanda Hallford, and Vanessa Hallford; and other loving family members and friends.

Carol and Mary made their home in Slidell, Louisiana, where they raised their family. Following Mary’s death in 2008, Carol later married Sandra Istre and made his home in Hammond, Louisiana.

Carol proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959, including service in Korea. Following his military service, he built a long and accomplished career in aviation with Chevron. A skilled aviation mechanic, he served in roles including Superintendent of Aircraft Maintenance and Aircraft Operations, helping oversee Chevron’s fleet of helicopters.

Hard work was one of the defining characteristics of Carol’s life. He was exceptionally mechanically inclined and took great satisfaction in understanding how things worked, repairing them, and keeping them running. Even outside of his professional career, he was rarely far from a project. He especially enjoyed working on his clocks.

Carol will be remembered as a cornerstone of his family. His generosity, dependable support, and willingness to care for others provided stability and strength to those around him. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life and informed the way he understood service, responsibility, and love of neighbor. Carol sought to live his faith not only in words, but through working hard, providing for those entrusted to his care, helping those in need, and remaining faithful in his service to God and others. His family will remember him as an example of quiet generosity, perseverance, and faithful devotion.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell, Louisiana, on Monday, September 28, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Interment of his ashes will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
