Captain Carroll "Terry" Newman (USCG Ret.) passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his residence after a long illness.  He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Lacombe, LA for 49 years.  The youngest of three children of Adolphus R. and Sarah "Sadie" Davis Newman.

Captain Newman is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and began his career in the Merchant Marines.  He then joined the US Coast Guard where he achieved the rank of Captain and traveled the world, spending time in Naples, Italy, OR, MD, TX, AL and Kodiak, Alaska.  He served in WWII on transport ships and had the most amazing stories from his life.

After retiring from the Coast Guard, he worked for Tidewater Inc in New Orleans and lived in New Orleans East.  Upon fully retiring from work, he enjoyed and pursued his interests in opera, gardening and his community.

He lived independently up to the age of 100, maintaining his properties, driving himself, and was sharp as a tack.  No one believed he was 100, even after a serious stroke.  In his last year, he enjoyed having his family around him, going shopping, reading and listening to music.  We will miss him greatly.

Terry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances "Franny" Smith, as well as their sons, Carroll Jr and John "Rob" Newman.  He is survived by his grandchildren, Mairi Newman-Lothian, Megan Newman-Tucker, Carroll T Newman III, John Robert Newman Jr. and his great-grandchildren Olivia and James.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Village Lutheran Church, 29180 Highway 190, Lacombe, LA on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 A.M.

Visitation at the church on Saturday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.

The interment with military honors will be held on Monday, March 20, at 11:00 A.M. in Biloxi National Cemetery.
