Obituary

Catherine Ann Aucoin of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully from her year-long battle with cervical cancer on September 6, 2024, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 27, 1958, to Paris and Jackulyn Aucoin, and was number four out of six children, Michael, Mark, Debra, Patricia, and Thomas. Catherine attended Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School and graduated in 1977 from Academy of the Holy Angels High School, in New Orleans. Catherine went to work at Entergy in New Orleans for 33 years and retired in 2018.

Catherine was a loving mother to Christal Rose Aucoin. She always said her birth changed her life for the better. Catherine was also a grandmother or "Gammy" to Blaize Michael Davis, Colton Presley Ruschmeier, Aubry Jayde Ruschmeier and her grand-puppy Roxie, who were her pride and joy, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.

Catherine took special joy in traveling to different states, New York, South Carolina, and other exotic locations like Jamaica, Nassau, the Bahamas, Santa Barbara, and Curacao with her sister Debra. Her joy was sitting on a beach with a drink in her hand toasting to the beautiful sunsets and life. Over the years there was a special group of friends they met along the way who traveled together to these different locations. Catherine "Gammy" had fond memories of attending the sporting events that her grandchildren were involved in, and she could be seen behind home plate to watch the games. She was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees, the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Catherine was preceded in death by her father Paris Louis Aucoin and her oldest brother Michael Thomas Aucoin, (survived by wife Susan), grandparents Joseph and Violet Dempsey, Chester and Marjorie Aucoin, and an Uncle John Morris Dempsey, US Army.

She is survived by her mother Jackulyn Dempsey Aucoin, sisters, Debra Aucoin Dominique Kappes, Patricia Aucoin Dupuy, brothers, Mark Aucoin (Rose) and Thomas Aucoin (Lynn); her daughter Christal Rose Aucoin, and grandchildren Blaize Michael Davis, Colton Presley Ruschmeier and Aubry Jayde Ruschmeier; Godmother to Eric (Amy) Dupuy, and her grand-puppy Roxie, who will never forget the love she brought into their lives.

At this time, we would like to thank Ashley Glover of Elara Caring, who administered home health care throughout Catherine's cancer treatments. We would also like to thank her hospice nurse Marguerite Hamilton and the staff of Anvoi Palliative & Hospice Care for providing excellent and compassionate care over the last two and a half months.
