Charles Edward Buras, 71, a longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 7, 2023. Charlie was born January 24, 1952, at Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans and grew up in Marrero, Louisiana. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Robin Mary Keating. They eventually moved from New Orleans to St. Bernard Parish where they raised their family.

Charlie worked for Deluxe Check Printers until 1994. In 1996, he joined the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office where he served 22 years, retiring as a Captain in 2018. He leaves behind his two beloved children, Jason Buras (Kelley), and Dannielle Buras Sylve (Chad); five grandchildren who he deeply adored, Chyler Buras, Camden Buras, Callyn Buras, McKinley Sylve, and Londyn Sylve. He also leaves behind his two faithful brothers, Michael Buras (Isabelle), and Louis Buras; his lovely sister, Monica Buras Robichaux (the late Deacon Will Robichaux); his best friend, his dog Blue, along with many wonderful nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Robin Keating Buras, his parents Edward L. Buras, Sr. and Grace Marie (Mary) Todaro Buras, and three brothers, Edward L. Buras. Jr., Anthony Buras, and Salvador Buras.

Charlie was a huge car enthusiast. He loved his red Corvette, which he enjoyed adding his own personal touches to. He was a member of the Northshore Corvette Club and enjoyed attending car shows and spending the weekend in Biloxi for Crusin' the Coast. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother, Mike, either taking the Corvettes out for a spin or just relaxing in Gatlinburg at Mike's cabin. Charlie looked forward to his yearly trip to Destin with the kids and grandkids. He loved just chilling in the lounger by the beach jamming to his favorite tunes on his 1st gen IPOD. He loved going to watch his only grandson play football for Brother Martin High School. Charlie was very crafty and in his earlier years enjoyed the tedious task of building model sports cars. He was always building something new in his backyard.

Charlie's love for his family was undeniable. He was always there for his children and grandchildren to help with absolutely anything they needed. Charlie was a selfless man and donated to many causes that were near and dear to his heart. At this difficult time, we find comfort in knowing that Charlie is where he really wanted to be, back with the love of his life, Robin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460. Visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.
