Cleopatra "Cleo" Hastings, age 100, of Pearl River, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 24, 2026. She is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth Hastings, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ruth Hilliard; her mother, Genesta Johnston; sisters, Fannie Pravata, Mary Lou Veazy, Louise Ferraez and brother, John Johnston, Jr.
Cleo was born on June 10, 1925, in Logan, West Virginia. During her early childhood years, she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she later graduated from high school and answered the call of God upon her life. She joined the Salvation Army and was ordained as a Lieutenant in the Army of God.
She faithfully served the Lord through the Salvation Army for 19 years, ministering in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. Her life was marked by service dedication and unwavering faith.
Following her ministry service, Cleo worked for the Federal Government with the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 20 years, faithfully carrying out her responsibilities with the same commitment and excellence that defined every area of her life.
Cleo was known by many for her deep and abiding love for God. No matter the trails or challenges she encountered in life, her devotion to Christ remained steadfast. The Word of God was ever before her, and she devoted herself to the study of Scripture throughout her life.
She faithfully served the church as a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years, teaching and encouraging countless individuals through God's Word. Her legacy of faith, service and love will continue to impact generations.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Honaker Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.
