Cynthia Susan Pichon Abney, 81, a lifelong resident of Slidell, Louisiana (Bayou Liberty), passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday, January 10, 2025.
She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 30, 1943, to her loving parents, Charles Alphonse Pichon and Josephine Pena Pichon. In 1964, she married William John Abney (Billy) of Slidell. Cynthia's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family and friends. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her 4 boys. Cynthia loved cooking, and there was always something simmering on her stove. She loved playing games of all kinds and never turned down a trip to a casino or bingo hall.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, John Patrick Pichon, Forrest Francis Pichon (Buddy), and Joseph Grant Pichon; and 2 sisters, Claudette Ann Pichon and Mary Deanna Pichon Daubert.
She is survived by Billy, her husband of 61 years, children Charles S. Abney (Karla), Eric J. Abney (Noelle), Jeffery A. Abney (Amy), and Brian W. Abney. She was a proud Granny to her 7 grandchildren, Wesley (Kayli), Emily, Logan, Blakely, Drake, Dane, and Dawson. Cynthia was also a great-grandmother to Lyla, with a second great-grandchild Walker, arriving in March. She is also survived by her sister, Therese Marie Pichon Fonte (Tessie). Cynthia was "Aunt Coonie" to countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Slidell, Louisiana (Bayou Liberty). Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with The Rosary at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am. Internment immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.
A repass will be held after internment at the St. Genevieve Parish Hall.
