Obituary

Dallas Quay Smallwood Sr. of Slidell, LA, passed away during the early morning hours on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 87 years of age.

He was a loving father who instilled morals, values, and patriotism into his children. Dad was a man who often shared that his "greatest accomplishment was the day his children were born." He lived a long life serving and protecting others. He spent a total of 54 years with the United States Government working for U.S. Customs and the Department of Homeland Security. Dallas faithfully served his country in both the U.S. Army and the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a proud Warrant Officer in the Army. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Los Angeles Co. Sheriff's Department in the early 1970s.  Dallas later served over 20 years in the Northshore Honor Guard of Slidell, LA and enjoyed his friendships with other members.

Dallas deeply loved his wife and best friend of 27 years, the late Barbara Smallwood. He is survived by his adult children Debralynn Smallwood-Hoffman, Dallas Quay Smallwood II, Dana Lewis Smallwood, David Hillard (Christine), and Gator Elvis Hillard; ten grandchildren William Elliott Hoffman Jr., Michael Quay Hoffman, Adam James Hoffman, Dana Lewis Smallwood, Victoria Smallwood, Star Smallwood, Troy Hillard (Katy), CJ Hillard (Jourdan), Timothy Hillard, and Cash Hillard. Dallas leaves behind six siblings, Geraldine Smallwood Gregory (Charles) of Memphis TN, Frances Lee Jr "Bud" Smallwood (Elaine) of Millington TN, Randall Smallwood (Sharon) of Brighton TN, Sandra Smallwood Pounders of Burnsville MS, Lynn Smallwood Phelps (Mike) of Augusta MO, and Don Smallwood (Linda) of Lancaster KY. He also leaves behind seven great grandchildren McKenna Hoffman, Michelle Hoffman, Michael Hoffman Jr., Malyn Hoffman, Kennedy Smallwood, Case Hillard, and Evan Hillard, as well as "the best neighbors I've ever had," Juan and Alison Garza and family.

It was Dallas's wish that he and Barbara's urns be interred together at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. A love being reunited. His physical presence will be missed, as well as his heart-felt political discussions and reflections of life experiences, but most of all his laughter will continue to be heard in our souls.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made payable to the Northshore Honor Guard 205 Chestnut Oak Dr. Mandeville, LA. 70448.
