Dorothy "Dottie" Jernigan Jones, 79, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in her home in Covington.

Dottie fought hard against a stage four cancer diagnosis in 2023. She, trusting in the Lord with all her heart, maintained a positive attitude throughout and always told everyone that she would be healed either here or in heaven. She had just completed a book titled ''A Mom's Shattered Heart'' before her diagnosis. Her testimony in this book and throughout her life has given countless people hope on how to find peace and joy in the midst of turmoil. Though her earthly journey is finished, her story and message will continue to touch and inspire people in many ways.

Dorothy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 21, 1946, to James and Stella Jernigan. In 1964 she married Tommy Jones, (of Coffeeville, Ms.), in Kenner, Louisiana.  In 1978 the family moved to Lacombe, Louisiana. This is where Craig, her second child drowned, and is the inspiration behind her book. She retired from Northlake Medical Supply, after 25 years, where she loved her job helping provide people with the medical equipment they needed.

She was preceded in death by a son, Craig T. Jones.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tommy Jones; one son, Brad Jones; brother, James D. Jernigan; and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460 on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

The visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am.
