Edward "Eddie" Eugene Smith Jr., of Pearl River, LA. passed away June 15, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was born September 21, 1964 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late Edward Eugene and Catherine Ann Burns Smith. Eddie graduated from Pearl River High School class of 1983. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Pearl River Police Department beginning what he would soon make his lifelong career. In 1985 he joined the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Department as a Reserve Deputy where his career would take off, serving the community and his family for 16 years.
He married the love of his life Wanda Jo Henley Smith November 4, 2000. After continuing his love for protecting and serving he finished his law enforcement career as a Sergeant at the Hancock County Sheriff's Department with a total of 28 years of service. Although his law enforcement career was admirable, he would have considered his greatest accomplishments his family and lifelong friendships. Coaching his children throughout their childhood would be some of his proudest moments, on any given weekend you could find Eddie at the ballpark supporting and coaching his 6 children. He was an avid outdoorsman, his love for hunting and fishing is unmatched.
Eddie is survived by his wife Wanda Smith, (younger sister) Candy Smith (Mike); his 6 children, Eddie Smith III, Shavon Ryan, Matt Smith (Brandie), Chase Ryan, Samantha Smith, and Jacob Smith; and his ten grandchildren, Ella-Rose Smith, the late Ava Cameron Smith, Kendrel Sanchell, Aubrey Ryan, Avery Smith, Emerson Smith, Cameron Ryan, Luke Smith, Astoria Sanchell, and Gianna Ryan. He is also survived by his niece Taylor Smith McLain (Dalton), his nephew, Michael Smith; great niece, Maison McLain; and great nephew, Brooks McLain.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,
1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA
on Wednesday, June 22, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Donald Bryan, officiating.
Interment will follow in Evans Creek Cemetery, Pearl River, La.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday after 11:00 A.M. until funeral time.
