Emily ("Emma") Camacho Thirstrup, 83, died peacefully at her home in Slidell, Louisiana, on Sunday September 22, 2024.

Born in Taylor, Texas July 3, 1941, daughter of the late Joe Ned Camacho and Mary Valesquez Camacho who passed away shortly after Emily's birth. Emily grew up in Killeen Texas, raised by her father and his second wife Lucille Camacho.

Emily is survived by her husband Dr. Larry L. Thirstrup; three sons, Robert Thirstrup and wife Wendi, Dr. Larry G. Thirstrup, and Marcus Thirstrup; and 3 granddaughters, Lauren Thirstrup, Caroline Thirstrup and Rachel Thirstrup.

Emily was a majorette at Killeen High school and worked at her father's bakery. After graduating high school, she worked at the U.S.O. Ft. Hood Texas where she met her future husband Lt. Larry Thirstrup, U.S. ARMY. Emily graduated with a master's degree in education from Texas Woman's University.

Emily loved teaching as a special education school teacher in the St. Tammany Parish School System for many years. She was known by her students at Bonne Ecole and Slidell Junior High school as "Mrs. T."

Emily was a resident of Slidell for approximately 46 years and was called "Mrs. Emily" by her friends in the community. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and enjoyed her service with the Episcopal Church Woman's group.

Emily was a beautiful person who loved her family, friends, her furry animals, and her Church. Emily was driven by her faith and love for the Lord, nature, listening to wind chimes, music, and interacting with others.

She was known for giving hugs and expressing love to others. She especially loved cooking for her family and spending time with them. Emily will be missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Christ Episcopal Church, 1534 Seventh Street, Slidell, LA 70458 on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.

Visitation at the church on Saturday after 10:00 A.M. until funeral time.
