Ernest Horatio
Fogg, Sr.
Sep 10, 1931 — Sep 17, 2022
Fort Myers
Ernest Horatio Fogg, Sr., age 91 years, of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Ernie was born at Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans, La., on September 10,1931. His devoted parents were Ruth Martha Barker Fogg and Horatio Ernest Fogg. His wonderful and caring second wife is Margot Flinn-Fogg. They were married July 2, 1993 in Chicago. He always told Margot that she was his "wife for life" and how fortunate he was that she accepted his proposal on "bended knee"!
He graduated from Metairie High (La.) and attended LSU with a scholarship when he was 16, where he learned to "smoke, chew, play poker & drink beer" but NOT much else. However, he did meet his life longbuddies Tommy Clements and Gene Higbee, which made it all worthwhile! His first job was his worst job ever, at a hatchery making "little chick" shipping boxes for only a "penny a box." He was a copy boy for the Times Picayune, the manifest clerk for the Biehl Shipping Company in New Orleans and foreman for the New Orleans Sash & Door factory. His dad told him a hundred times (or more), "Son, it's time to get serious and get an education." And he finally heeded his Dad's sage advice!
Ernie attended Tulane University and one year later moved to Atlanta where he attended Emory University. He graduated in the top 10% of his senior class with a BBA degree and was recruited right out of college by Sears Roebuck & Co.. He dedicated his career to Sears, where he served as a New Orleans Department Store Manager and National Assistant Retail Store and Catalog Sales Manager, Los Angeles West Coast Buyer, Chicago National Buyer, National Senior Buyer and National Major Appliances Group Operating Manager. In 1986, Ernie was instrumental in helping start-up the QVC Home Shopping Network in West Chester, PA. In total, he spent 45 years doing what he loved best……merchandising, innovation and marketing. He finally "hung it up" in Dec. 2002 as the Sears QVC Buying/Merchandising Contractor/Rep. During his tenure with Sears, he was very fortunate to travel to all 50 states, Europe, Mexico and the Far East.
Ernie was honorable discharged from the U.S. Naval Reserve following 10 years of service on submarines and aircraft carriers. In 2000, He and Margot moved to Cape Coral, Florida to assist his dad, Horatio (Ray) and stepmother, Mama Dot, in their final years. For nine years Ernie served as a volunteer for the Cape Coral Police Department, where he preferred giving out warnings instead of citations. While in the Cape, he met some incredible friends, including Bob and Mary Carol, Grant and Mary Ann, Peggy an Bob and Vince and Luba.
Ernie is survived by his dear wife, Margot, his only son, Ernie, Jr., two daughters, Leslie and Melanie, five grandchildren, Kristen, Kyle, David, Danielle, Kevin and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Hannah.
Graveside Services will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery, Bryan Street, Slidell, La. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. where he will be buried in the family tomb.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research.
