Francine Collongues Grand, age 72, of Slidell, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on June 19, 2022, holding the hand of her loving husband, Alton Joseph Grand. Together, they successfully battled stage 4 lymphoma in 2020, only to have an inoperable heart valve issue take her life.
Francine was born on August 10, 1949, to the late Francois and Mildred Collongues in the city of New Orleans. In the spring of 1964, she met Alton on Bonnabel Boulevard in Metairie. They dated for six years and wed on January 3 rd ,1970. They adopted their son Jonathan in 1975 and four years later Mary was born to them. Francine held a clerical role in both the legal and medical field for many years.
Francine was predeceased by her parents, Francois, and Mildred Collongues, her mother-in-law, Mary Jean Grand, and her sister, Anne Collongues Kimble Albert.
Francine is survived by her spouse Alton, her daughter Mary, her son Jonathan, her daughter-in-law Nicole, and her granddaughter Jada, her sister, Kathleen Collongues, her sister-by-heart, Barb Danner, her father-in-law, Alton Grand Sr. and extended family; along with her many nephews, nieces and cousins.
During Francine's lifetime, she was involved in acting (school plays at Archbishop Chapelle and Kenner Little Theater), church choir (Saint Luke's Catholic Church and Saint Margaret Mary's Catholic Church) and the Nightingales Chorus Group.
She loved fishing, crabbing, and gathering amongst friends and family.
She volunteered as a data entry clerk for several years for the Good Samaritan organization at Saint Luke's Catholic church.
Funeral Mass will be presided over by Father Jared Rodrigue at 11:00 a.m. on July 2 at Saint Luke 's Catholic Church. General visitation will start at 10:00 am prior to the mass.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association.
