Gary Wayne Abney, 74, of Slidell, Louisiana, died of Advanced Alzheimer's/Dementia with complications from repeated strokes on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at 2:00am, in Slidell.

Gary was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 6, 1951 to Alvin Abney and Lillian Abney.  He graduated from Slidell High School class of 1970.  After graduation he held a few different jobs before being employed by Haliburton to which he stayed till retirement.

Gary married Judy Shultz in 1979 and they had two children, Wayne Andrew Abney and Mark Curtis Abney.

Gary was a prominent member of Thompson Road Baptist Church.  As well as co-founder of S.K.I.P. (sick kids need involved people) of Louisiana, a non-profit camp for kids with disabilities and their families.

Gary was preceded in death by Alvin Abney, Lillian Abney, Donnie Abney, and Wayne Abney.  He is survived by Karen Mohr, Michael Abney, Gerald Abney, Judy Abney, Mark Abney.

Funeral Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell on Monday, December 8,2025.

Visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.
