Gary "Arky" Martin, passed away on Tuesday December 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Martin was a native of El Dorado, Arkansas and St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana but resided in Slidell, Louisiana. He was 71 years old.

Gary was the son of the late Clyde and Mary Martin. Gary was the wonderful loving husband of Patsy Shuff Martin for almost 52 years. Gary was the devoted and adoring father of Kevin Martin(the late Carol Penn), the late Kourtney Martin Morgan (Steve), Kacie Mule (David), and Kazz Martin (Krystal). He was preceded in death by his brother Clyde Jr, Charles and Tommy Martin. He was the proud grandpa of Kameron Martin, Cassandra Morgan, Savannah Morgan, Nick Morgan, Korrine Morgan, Kole Morgan, Brianna Mule, Avery Martin, Vance Martin and Caitlyn Penn and the late Tommy Penn. He had one great grand-daughter Steelie Morgan. His brother in laws included Charles Shuff, Zack Standige and the late Michael Shuff, Brooks Huffman, Bobby Shuff, and Dr. Lucas DiLeo. His sister in laws were Faye Huffman, Doris Dileo, Judy Standige, Janice Shuff, Linda Martin, Lynette Shuff and the Lil Martin. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Gary retired from Valero Meraux and Murphy Oil after 40 years of work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid ball player. He played in the GNOAL league for almost 25 years. You could always find him playing cabbage ball in the St. Bernard Parish Park League. Gary loved coaching and watching his kids and grandchildren play ball. He enjoyed life to the fullest. There was never a day that he did not watch a ball game, play with his grandkids or enjoy being with his family. He always had a smile and a quick sense of humor. He was quick to play jokes and always wanted to make people laugh. Gary and Patsy were high school sweethearts and were married on December 19, 1970. Patsy was Gary's best friend and stayed by his side until he took his last breath. Gary was a kind soul that found the joy in everything, he was a family oriented man that always looked out for his friends and family. He developed many cherished and long lasting friendships through the years that made him happy until the end. He was only 71 years old and fought hard to be with his family forever. He is now in the presence of his loving daughter, Kourtney, having a great time and looking down on us from above. He was loved by his family and friends he will be forever in our hearts.

Services will be held on Saturday December 17, 2022 at Honaker Funeral Home 1751 Gause Blvd West in Slidell, La. Visitation is from 9 am to 11 am and services from 11am for all family and friends. After the service there will be a celebration of his life at the Maple Room in Slidell from 12:30-3:30pm. The address is 2219 Carey Street.
