Harold Albert Toscano, 84, of Kenner, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.  Harold was a native of New Orleans having been born on May 31, 1938. He attended school at P.A. Capto and graduated from St. Aloysius with the Class of 1956 where he excelled in all sports.  He served two years in the Army National Guard.  He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Harold and Lillian Bennett Toscano, and his second wife Dottie Howard Toscano. He was the beloved father of Harold (Mariel) Toscano and Millie Toscano Pelias.  He was Paw Paw to Joseph Harold II (Kara), Dylan, Blake, Mickey, Olivia, Nicolas, and Matthew.  He is survived by his siblings Donald Toscano, Leila Ullrich and Elaine Grundmeyer (Doug).

He was not a wealthy man but lived a very rich life. He really enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and traveled the country to watch them compete.  Win or lose, he always stayed to the end to offer words of encouragement and to give them a few dollars on the sly.

Harold was a man of many talents and worked in a variety of trades including being a paperboy, carpenter, insurance agent, magazine ad salesman, TV quiz show writer, bartender, country club waiter, extra in over a 1,000 locally shot movies, and a poll worker.

He had a great love of animals and raised pigeons and raced grey hounds. He marched with the Italian Americans and road with the Krewes of Hercules and Dionysus. He was never at a loss for words and knew a lot about a lot of things and was always willing to share his knowledge with others.  He was a 9-time champion on the local TV game show "N.O. It Alls".

Harold enjoyed music and was a regular both weekend JazzFest goer.  He couldn't dance or sing but he sure could bop to the Mardi Gras beat.  He loved everything New Orleans but also liked to travel to New York City by train or plane to attend Broadway plays. He liked a great steak with a glass of red wine, a dressed roast beef po-boy with a cold draft beer and hot plate of red beans and rice with a Barqs.

He was a lifelong Tulane fan and got to fulfill a dream when he won a chance to practice with the Tulane Football Team in his middle age.  He ran onto the field when Tulane beat LSU 14 – 0 in 1973 after 25 consecutive defeats.

Harold will be missed by many but forgot by none.
