Helga Allison, 83, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Slidell, Louisiana.
Born on December 13, 1942, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Helga grew up in a home where there was always room for one more. A spare bed was always available for aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, and that spirit of hospitality stayed with her throughout her life. She carried it into her own home, welcoming others and making family out of friends wherever she went.
Helga was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry, with whom she shared a lifetime of family, faith, and love. Their life together took them to several countries through Harry's government service and brought its share of challenges along the way. Through it all, Helga's strength, determination, and fierce devotion to her family never wavered. Wherever life took them, she found a way to make a home and build a community.
Helga is survived by her three children, Thomas (Ronni), Eneida, and Harry (Michele); her grandchildren, Thomas (Kelly Ann), Michael (Malena), Allison (Alexander), Sara, Vera, and Darla; and five great-grandchildren, Leo, Luke, Tessa, Gwendolyn, and Tobin.
Helga was determined and never one to shy away from a challenge. She had high expectations of herself and others, believed firmly in doing what was right, and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She stood by the people she loved, pushed them to be their best, and was always there when they needed her.
Faith was at the heart of Helga's life. She loved Jesus and was a devoted Catholic. As a member of the St. John of the Cross Lay Carmelites and several other religious groups, she formed friendships that became an extension of her family. She found joy, comfort, and strength in her church community and was especially proud to have been a member of St. Margaret Mary Church for more than 40 years.
When Helga was asked how she wanted to be remembered, her answer was simple: “I loved much.” And she did, fiercely and without reservation. She leaves behind a family shaped by her strength, her convictions, and the depth of her love.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at St. Margaret Mary Church (1050 Robert Boulevard, Slidell, LA). Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
