Herbert "Herb" Gay, 78, of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana.

Herb was born August 23, 1946, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to Houston Gay and Mauline Lott.

In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army. In 1969, he married Kathleen Russo and the couple settled in Gretna.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Russo Gay; seven brothers, Fred Gay, Hubert Gay, Lewis Gay, Buford Gay, Robert Gay, B.J. Gay, and A.J. Gay.

He is survived by one daughter, Meredith Gay Waltemyer (Cory); four grandchildren, Mason Calico, Hayden Calico, Easton Waltemyer, Meadow Waltemyer; brother, Houston Gay, Jr.; sisters, Lanita Thomas, Brenda Coyle; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Military Honors will be held at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana, on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 11:00am.
