Ida Mae McDougald Meilleur, age 87, of St. Tammany Parish,  passed  away Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Covington, Louisiana.

Ida was born August 6, 1937 to Patricia Leitz McDougald and Herman McDougald in  LaFourche parish and raised in New Orleans.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Emile Meilleur; their daughters, Rene' Birkle (Kent) and Michele Dufour; and a granddaughter, Savannah Dufour Bandi (Brandon). She is also survived by a sister,  Freddie McArdle; and many nieces and nephews.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James; and sisters, Patricia and Colleen.

She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to work for the Department of the Navy in New Orleans.

She met her future husband in 1954. They married in 1957. After many years as a work at home mother, she went to work in the medical industry and later the insurance industry.

Ida enjoyed camping with her family throughout the U.S. and almost every weekend with friends. In her Senior years she and her husband drove to Canada and took a cruise to Alaska.

She was a resident of Terrytown and parishioner of Christ the King Church for 35 years and a resident of St. Tammany Parish for 24 years.

Internment will be in Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell.
