James E. Mire, a native of Slidell, and resident of Mandeville, Louisiana passed away
peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 19, 2022, at the age of 85. Jim
attended First Baptist Church of Covington. He enjoyed the outdoors, both the continuous
activities in maintaining his property and the tranquil serenity of his courtyard with
Linda, their Yorkie Bella, and pet birds. He also enjoyed spending time with his family,
especially following his retirement from law enforcement. He attended the U.S. Naval
Academy where he played football and was a midshipman, and then obtained degrees
from both USL and LSU. Jim then went on to serve an outstanding career in law
enforcement with the FBI for 29 years; during which he not only served as a special
agent, but also as a field training agent, firearms instructor and SWAT team leader. He
followed as a Background Investigator with the FBI for another 20 years and was also a
firearms training instructor for 10 years during that period with the St. Bernard Sheriff's
Office.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Bel Mire; his two sons Michael Mire and his wife
Michelle, Matthew Mire and his wife Amanda; three granddaughters Mallory Park and
her husband Stewart, Meredith Mire, Margaret Mire, and one grandson Cole Mire; his
brother Paul Mire and his wife Debbie; and his sister Jan Felder; an aunt and numerous
nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius Andrew Mire, Sr. and
Ethel Robert Mire; his son Jonathan Mire; and his four brothers Julius Mire, Thomas
Mire, John Mire, Robert Mire, and brother-in-law Michael Felder.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Grace Funeral Home,
450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM
with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM.
Burial will follow the services in St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden, adjacent to
Grace Funeral Home.
