Jo Ellen Harding Abney, 97, of Slidell, LA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022.

She was born in Slidell, Louisiana, on July 13, 1925 to the late Alexander E. and Nellie Dugas Harding. Jo Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years John M. Abney Sr.; her daughter, Cheryl Abney Shepherd; and her five siblings.

Jo Ellen is survived by her son, John M. Abney Jr. (June) of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren Robert "Dale" Shepherd III (Denise), Lisa Sandifer (Ronnie), Shannon Shepherd, Heather Howard (Buddy), Bradley Shepherd, Ricky Shepherd (Gina), and Jay Abney (Stephany). She is also survived by eighteen great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She loved her family unconditionally.

She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Slidell. Her amazing faith was a source of comfort and strength for her and her family. We are thankful that she was with us for so long and able to enjoy life as she wished. Jo Ellen was an inspiration to all who love her and everyone she met along the way.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,

1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA
on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:00 A.M.

Interment in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY.

Visitation on Monday after 10:00 A.M. until funeral time.

Donations to the First Baptist Church School Fund preferred, in lieu of flowers.
