Joan Coldewy Gros, 83, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, in Slidell.
Joan was born September 3, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Frank and Mary Coldewy. At two years of age, her family moved to New Orleans.
Joan attended grammar school at Our Lady of Lourdes, New Orleans and high school at St. Mary's Dominican High School. Joan is a graduate of St. Mary's Dominican College. In college, Joan reigned as Queen of New Orleans' Spring Fiesta in 1960. In 1961 she married the love of her life, Joseph Gros in New Orleans.
Their marriage was an adventure as Joe's Navy career moved them from Rhode Island to Florida to Virginia. They spent over 27 years in Alexandria, Virginia where Joan had a long career as a Realtor. After retirement, the couple moved to Slidell, where Joan has resided since 2004.
Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph E. Gros, Jr.; and her sister, Phyllis Landrieu.
She is survived by four children, Leslie Maniglia (Craig), Jennifer Cannon, Joseph Gros, III (Darcie), Christopher Gros; twelve grandchildren, Danielle Cotter (Kevin), Brittany Borgiasz (Mark), Morgan Maniglia, Sydney Maniglia, Hayden Maniglia, Lindsay Civitella (Casey), Nicholas Cannon (Kris), Stephen Cannon (Alicia), Hailey Godfrey (Cody), Alexandra Mulford (Tim), Joseph Gros, IV and David Gros; ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Elaine Boudreaux; her sisters-in-law, Geryl Diodene (Russell) and Sheryl Gros as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Joan was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister , aunt and friend. She led an exemplary life guided by her faith and enriched by her wisdom and kindness. Her life was filled with smiles and laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Bvd West, Slidell LA 70460 on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 2:00pm
Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 12:30pm.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
