JoAnn Gomez, 85, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, in Slidell.

JoAnn was born September 11, 1939, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Johnny and Roma Lea.  After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University, she moved to Slidell, where she was one of the first teachers at Abney Elementary School, built in 1964.  In 1968 she married Bernard Gomez in Slidell.  In 1995 she retired from the St. Tammany Parish School System after teaching for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Gomez.

JoAnn is survived by three children, Jonathan Gomez, Jude Gomez (Trish), Matt Gomez (Joyce); eight grandchildren, Stella Gomez, Jena Smith, Christopher Gomez, Britney Gomez, Luke Gomez, Jeannette Loftin, Madilynn Gomez, Emily Gomez; survived by six great-grandchildren; sister, Lynn Fury; and other relatives.

Graveside Services will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery (Honaker Funeral Home) 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460, on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10:00am.
