John Nicholas Bockhorst, age 85, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

The funeral will be Tuesday, December 20th. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with the Funeral Service following at 11:00 AM at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West (In Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, LA.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, John retired from the United States Navy after serving 26 years and was a Vietnam veteran. Upon his retirement, he began a career in Civil Service at the Naval Air Station-New Orleans for an additional 20 years. John was an avid golfer and a long-standing member of Millbrook Country Club. He resided at the Summerfield Living Center for the last six years and was an active member of the singing group The Shanty Krewe. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Marie Bockhorst, his first wife of 50 years Mary Ella Bockhorst, siblings Vincent Bockhorst, Rosemary Totton, Rita Thawley, and daughter Kelly Richards.

John is survived by his wife of nine years Betty Madere Bockhorst, siblings Robert Bockhorst, Betty Weber, his daughters Teresa Serie (Lyle), Debbie Causey (Bob), Gayle Poole (Charles), stepdaughters Patricia Seemann Brand (Bubba), Elizabeth Cochran (Christopher), grandchildren, Allen, Christi, Kimberly, Sara, Jonathan, Justin, Julia, Abriana, and Laden, and five great-grandchildren Scarlett, Elizabeth, Katherine, Carter, and Maesyn.
