John Robert Cool, age 92, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Allsbury Cool; his son, Robert A. Cool; his stepdaughter, Debra Coler; and two stepsons, Randall Selby and Timothy Selby. John is also survived by eight step-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his son, William J. Cool; his parents, Robert Gerald and Lydia Colvin Cool; and his sisters, Ruth Cool and Shirley Sampson.

John was a native of Calumet City, Illinois, and a resident of Slidell since 1963. He also resided in Indiana and Utah which provided great experiences hunting, trapping, and boating during his youth. He attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1959.

He began his professional life building designer elevators and hill climbers. A short time later, he accepted an offer from General Dynamics that began his career in the Aerospace Industry. John had the unique opportunity to work on many aerospace projects including, Project Mercury, the Centaur, The Saturn Project, Apollo, Gemini, as well as the Space Shuttle Program.

John and Sally enjoyed strolling arm in arm through Old Town Slidell. They also enjoyed traveling the world which included trips to Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, China, England, and South Africa. In retirement, John also kept himself busy playing racquetball and tennis with friends. He was also committed to charitable work with East St. Tammany Mental Health and Sunshine House, which was rebuilt as Sunshine Village after Hurricane Katrina. John also served as a docent at the Stennis Infinity Space Center.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, LA. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
