John Wayne Hickman Sr., 65, of Barataria, Louisiana, was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Born on July 12, 1960, an avid outdoorsman, John was most at peace when he was in the woods hunting or on the water fishing. When he wasn't enjoying nature, he was likely found in the kitchen. While he was a passionate cook, his greatest joy was not the food itself, but the act of providing for and bringing together the family he loved so dearly. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all who knew him.

John's legacy of love is carried on by his wife of 47 years, Diana R. Hickman. He is also survived by his three children: Misty (Nathaniel) Hickman, John (Michelle) Hickman Jr., and Kristy (Darrin) Champagne. He leaves behind a proud abundance of 14 grandchildren: Lawrence Jr. (Krista), Alayna, Jonathan, Gabriele, John III, Damian, Dillon, Pierce, Abigail, Dominic, Leanna, Ellie, Jacob, and Demi. Also survived by his brothers, Eugene (Victoria) Hickman, and Daniel (Ellen) Hickman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Patrick Hickman Sr. and Marylou Hickman, as well as his brother Patrick Hickman Jr.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will follow in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY.

Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
