Joy S. Dunn, 88, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, in Carriere, Mississippi.

Joy was born February 10, 1936, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to  Belah and Ethel Slade. Joy graduated from Poplarville High School and then married James Dunn Sr. in Poplarville.

After attending The University of Southern Mississippi and LSU together, her husband joined the United States Army where he became an officer over the next thirty years.

After retirement from the military, the couple settled in Slidell in 1979.

Joy was a founding member and seven-time president of the Womens Republican Club in Slidell and was a member of the Garden Club in Slidell, and was active at Pinewood Country Club. She also did advertising work for the Times Picayune and Northshore Hospital.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, James Dunn Sr.; a son, Joseph Dunn; daughter, Sandra Dunn; and a son-in-law, Terry Johnson.

She is survived by three children, Rhonda Fowler (Alan), Donna Johnson, James Dunn Jr. (Michelle); fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Passman; brother, Richard Slade; and other relatives.

A visitation will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 61141 Robert Blvd, Slidell LA, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 2:00pm until 4:30pm.

Burial will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 8910 Carl Legett Rd, Gulfport MS 39503, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11:00am for immediate family only.
