Obituary

Kenneth Emile Parks, Sr., age 88, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ken was born on June 23, 1937, in Slidell, Louisiana, to Samuel Emile Parks and Rosina Pellerin Parks. A proud lifelong resident of Slidell graduated from Slidell High School in 1956 and later attended Louisiana State University. Ken was a devoted LSU fan through and through—Geaux Tigers!

In 1958, Ken married Jane Fabacher Parks, and together they welcomed five beautiful children. Though their marriage lasted 18 years, their shared legacy lived on through their family. In 1997, Ken married his loving wife, Kathy Vann Parks, who faithfully cared for and loved him until his passing.

Ken dedicated his working years to many endeavors, including employment with the United States Postal Service, Chrysler at John Stennis, Mattel Toys, Clopay, then opened with his first wife Janie the first Ace Hardware store of Slidell in 1972, and later as a self-employed businessman. Known for his strong work ethic and determination, Ken took pride in providing for his family.

Outside of work, Ken found joy in hunting, fishing, and golf, but nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a steady presence—always ready with a story, a laugh, or quiet support. Ken was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Slidell, where he found community and a love for our Lord.

Favorite memories of Ken include time spent outdoors, family gatherings filled with laughter, cheering on LSU football, and the countless moments of love and guidance he shared with those closest to him.

Ken is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Parks; his children, Rebecca Parks McLeod (Scott) of Madisonville, Iris Parks Hartzog (Bob) of Baton Rouge, Cathy Parks Hood (Rick) of Covington, Kenny Parks (Terri) of Slidell, and Jody Parks (Courtney) of Covington; and his cherished grandchildren, Sean McLeod, Kevin McLeod, Bobby Hartzog (Sarah), Kristen Hartzog, Alexandra Hood Okechi (Leo), Brian Parks, Dr. Katie Parks Anderson (Daniel), Jenny Parks Hargett (William), Matthew Parks, Zachary Parks (Chloe), Nicholas Parks, Landon Parks, and Cecilia Parks.

He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren, Hannah Hartzog, Matthew Hartzog, and Silas McLeod.
