Obituary

Kenneth John Walker, affectionately known as Kenny, passed away on August 30, 2025, in Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 66.

Kenny was born on September 17, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, to Gerry and Marjorie Walker. He grew up in Fullerton, California, where he attended Sunny Hills High School. From an early age, he carried with him a strong sense of loyalty, humor, and determination—traits that would shape the rest of his life.

He devoted his career to organized labor, proudly serving the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Through hard work and commitment, he rose to become President of Local 495, where he fought for fairness and respect for working men and women. After retiring with the Teamsters, Kenny continued his work in labor as the head of labor relations for the California Federation of Horse Racing.

In 2019, Kenny partially retired, and with his wife Cheryl, settled in Slidell, Louisiana. Semi-retirement brought him time to enjoy his passions: collecting firearms, shooting at the range with friends, and golfing. At home, Kenny's constant companions were his dogs—Labrador Retrievers Rory, Kahlua, and Coal, and his long-haired Dachshund, Willie.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his children, Ryan (Addy) and Katie (Phil); and his brother, Gerry (Debbie). He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerry and Marjorie Walker, and his sister, Lynne April Walker.

A memorial service celebrating his life is anticipated to be held during Mardi Gras in February 2026, when family and friends will gather to honor a life lived fully and well.
