Obituary

Sergeant Larry J. Simon, age 76,  passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family at his Henderson LA home on August 24, 2022. Larry was a veteran who served in the 1/12 th Infantry Brigade (Red Warriors) and the 4 th Infantry Division during the Vietnam war (1967). Larry was Honorably Discharged from his military service at the rank of Sergeant, E-5 in 1968 and spent the next 33 years in retail sales and management.

Larry loved the retail business and lead the success of shoe companies such as Bell Brothers (GenesCo), Gusmayers Shoes (Wexners), Shoe Town and The Ranch (Wiener Ent). He was the friendly face of Hostess - Dolly Madison IBC and a proud Cajun distributor of Zapps potato chips. In his retirement years he continued to service his community as a medical courier for Network Express and 1 st Option.

Larry J. Simon was born on September 20, 1945 in Abbeville, LA as the youngest child to his parents John Ozar and Yvonne M. Simon. He lived in Crowley, LA until 1963 and moved to New Orleans at the age of 17 and remained until 2005 when hurricane Katrina came through. After the storm, he made Henderson, LA his home and remained until his death.

He was preceded in death by his companion of 21 years Mrs. Jean Ragas Grayson of New Orleans, LA., his father John Ozar Simon, his mother Yvonne M. Simon of Abbevelle, LA,  his sister Mary Simon Carter, brothers Gerald Minos Simon, Ray Allen Simon, Howard Joseph Simon, and son Christopher W. Simon of Arabi, LA.

Larry is survived by his daughter Heather M. Simon (Timmy) of Arabi, LA, his son Sean D. Green (April) of Brandon, FL. His stepdaughter Janel Grayson Lamkin and her husband John of Poplarville, MS, Samuel Grayson III and his wife Sheila of Portland, OR, Gina Grayson Richardson and her husband Terry of Bend, OR, Fayann Ragas of Denham Springs, LA.  His grandchildren: Britain Cox, Kyle Green, Hannah Wietrecki, Avril Collazo, Krystal Grueter, Conor Lamkin, Ava Grayson, Syd (Leah) Grayson, Owen Richardson, Ryder Richardson and his great grandchildren: Cayden Shoemake, McKenzie Shoemake, and Calleigh Vallette.

Graveside Memorial service will be held Friday, September 9 at 11:00am at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd in Slidell LA.
