Lawrence Dupuy
Wiedemann
Sep 5, 1930 — Apr 17, 2024
Harahan
Lawrence Dupuy Wiedemann, Esq., of Harahan, LA., passed away on April 17, 2024, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his sons, Fritz Wiedemann and Karl Wiedemann and wife Rose Wiedemann (Anderson). He is survived by his daughter, Karen Wiedemann and son-in-law, Salvatore G. LoVecchio, daughters-in-law Terry Chamberlain and Stefanie Wiedemann. He is survived by six grandchildren, Kristin Wiedemann (Andrew Thompson), Kimberly Klotz (Christopher), Molly Love (Tom), Caroline Farnham, Erika Wiedemann, Lawrence Wiedemann (Whitney), seven great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
Larry, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, graduated from Jesuit High School in the Class of 1949 and later from Southwest Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, where he excelled at football. He then continued his education at Tulane University School of Law, where he distinguished himself as a member of both Law Review and Moot Court. Larry was a tenacious trial lawyer. He was recognized by his profession for his skills as a litigator, particularly in advocating for accident victims and those in need of fair representation. Larry was a zealous champion of social justice issues and, in the words of Teddy Kennedy, "He saw wrongs and tried to right them."
Beyond his legal career, he was a generous soul who knew no bounds and was known to share anything he had with others. His home was always open, and with his wife, Rose, his hospitality, and generosity were extended to the many people in his orbit. Larry had a love for travel, be it to Europe with friends, family vacations to Florida and Beech Mountain, or indulging in tropical getaways with immediate family. He cherished his annual World Series trips, often accompanied by his brother Al, and enjoyed his many fishing weekends spent with family and friends at his camp in Cocodrie. Be on notice, Uncle Larry's tab is now officially closed.
In lieu of flowers, the family urges you to engage in acts of generosity in his honor.
A memorial mass will be held in his honor on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 10021 Jefferson Hwy., River Ridge, Louisiana, 70123. Visitation will commence at 10:30 a.m. until service time.
