In loving memory of Lionel Jude Lemoine

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lionel Jude Lemoine on July 18, 2026, just a few hours shy of his 90th birthday. We are so very grateful that we were able to celebrate his 90th birthday with him the weekend before.

Lionel was born on July 19, 1936, in Cottonport, Louisiana. He lived a wonderful life full of adventure, fun, humor, and mischief. His fun-loving spirit, witty sense of humor, and ability to make friends wherever he went made him truly unforgettable. He loved to joke and have a good time. To know him is to love him. He was truly unique. Generous and kind, he loved to give silly little gifts to family, friends, and even people he just met, such as candy, harbor freight treasures, stuffed animals, satsumas, etc.… Lionel loved his family very much and was incredibly proud of his beautiful wife, JoAnn of almost 60 years, his daughters, his grandkids, and his first great grandchild. He was often seen at family or church events snapping photos to print and share.

Lionel was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Essex aircraft carrier flight deck during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Navy he moved to New Orleans where he managed several Exxon service stations for 42 years. He loved to quote the slogan, "Put a tiger in your tank!"

After he retired, he became active in his community. He was fiercely protective of his Catholic faith and dedicated 18 years of service to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Slidell as a sacristan 6 days a week. He received the St. Louis IX Medallion for his service. He also served his community through the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight in Slidell Council 2732 where he dedicated countless hours to fund raising and working bingo events, leaving a lasting impression on all of those he encountered. He touched the lives of so many and will forever be in our hearts!

Lionel leaves behind a loving family including his wife, JoAnn; daughters Wendy (Damon), Melissa; grandchildren Alexandra (Derrick), Madison, Keira, Owen, Spencer; and great grandchild Emerson Grace. He is also survived by his loving siblings Sherwood, Penny, and Carmel (Emeric). He is reunited in heaven with his siblings Farrell and DonnaGail and his parents, Albert and Alma Lemoine.

His legendary spirit of fun, love, and laughter will live on in us through every story we tell, laugh we share, and memory we cherish.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Funeral Mass : 11:30-12:30, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church

Burial with military honors : 1:30 PM at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Road Slidell, LA 70460
