Loretta Elizabeth
Garcia Stevens
Aug 11, 1950 — May 2, 2025
Slidell
Loretta Elizabeth Garcia Stevens, 74, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Slidell.
"Retta" was born August 11, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Lawrence and Dolores Garcia. In 1970 she married the love of her life Jimmy Davis Stevens in Slidell at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Retta was a homemaker who was very active in her community and volunteered most of her time to various organizations in Slidell. She loved to volunteer for bingo at the Knights of Columbus Hall #2732, where she was also a member of the KC Ladies Auxiliary. She also was an active member of St. Luke's Catholic Church where she was an adoration member and a member of St. Luke's Ladies Auxiliary. Retta grew up in Slidell and lived there her whole life graduating from Slidell High School in 1968. Retta knew just about everyone in "Old Slidell". Anytime she went somewhere in Slidell, she was likely to run into someone she knew. She remained very close with several friends who had graduated high school with her. She also had groups of friends she enjoyed playing games(bunco) with monthly. Retta was a caring, kindhearted person who always wanted to help when needed. She loved to bake and was always bringing something sweet with her to whatever gathering she was going to. Retta will be missed by many.
Loretta was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jimmy Davis Stevens with whom she was married for 32 years. Every morning, Jimmy told Retta "Good Morning Beautiful". I'm sure when they met again in Heaven he said, "Hello beautiful it's so good to see you again, I've been waiting a long time".
Their love produced one daughter, Jennifer Stevens Hebert Wheeler (Scott) whom she is survived by. Retta is also survived by two grandchildren she adored, Zachary Alan Hebert, and Alyssa Grace Hebert. Retta is also survived by her brother, Larry E. Pichon; sister, Lori Pichon-Milford; sister, Veronica Garcia; stepbrother, Rene Galeas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Loretta is preceded in death by her stepfather, Kyel Pichon; stepmother, Mercedes Garcia; and her cherished in-laws Luther and Willie Mae Stevens.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the funeral mass at 11:00am.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
