Obituary

Margaret "Frances" Davis Pearson, 92, of Lacombe, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Lacombe. Frances was born on August 30, 1930, in Lacombe, Louisiana. She was a lifelong resident of Lacombe, where she was born, raised, and completed grade school.

She attended Southeastern Louisiana University after she graduated from Slidell High School, where she met her life-long love, Cultus Pearson, and started a family. Frances and Cultus were partners in all things—love, parenting, and work. When Cultus decided to become self-employed, he and Frances first ran a general store and gas station in Lacombe. As they went from this store to a full-service Esso/Exxon station, to crabbing and selling boiled crabs from home, Frances kept track of the books, paperwork, and taxes. Together, they were a successful team in business. Frances and Cultus began having children early into their second year of marriage, and their family quickly grew to nine children in a span of 14 years. Frances and Cultus were recognized as Queen and King of the Lacombe Crab Festival Cookoff and, most recently, as the 2011 Citizens of the Year by the Lacombe VFW Ladies Auxiliary of which Frances was a member. As a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Frances often attended daily Mass. Her love of Jesus, the Blessed Mother, and people in her community was expressed through her acts of charity and many hours of volunteer service, most notably to Bayou Lacombe Junior High School and Holy Redeemer High School. Frances's biggest accomplishments were behind the scenes; she worked tirelessly to take care of her children, support her friends, and contribute to the community.

Those who knew Frances admired her strength and her ability to stand firm in her convictions. Of all the lessons she passed on, through her words and her actions, three are particularly notable: work hard, tell the truth, do what's right. Frances's legacy is best defined by the lives she nurtured and the personalities she shaped, beginning with her husband of more than 70 years, her nine children, her 29 grandchildren, and 57 great grandchildren. Put simply, she was a person of integrity, a woman of strength, and a lady of love.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Cultus O. Pearson, Sr.; two sons, Zeblin G. Pearson and Kurt M. Pearson; granddaughter, Angelle Nicole Pearson; former daughter-in-law, Glenda H. Pearson; parents, William H. Davis, Sr. and Margaret Thom Davis; sisters, Marjorie "Marjie" Moran, Doris Wherritt, Katherine "Juanita" Love, Eleanor Storm, and Lucy Lockwood; brother, William H. "Billy" Davis, Jr.

Frances is survived by a brother, John Allan "Buck" Davis (Lenell); sister-in-law, Peggy Davis; seven children, Anita P. Ryan (Chris), William B. Pearson, Edwin P. Pearson (Tammy), Candace P. McNeill (Phillip), Cultus O. "C.O." Pearson, Jr. (Peggy), Gerard D. Pearson (Cyndy), Quinn M. Pearson; daughter-in-law, Diane Z. Pearson; 28 grandchildren and 57 great grandchildren. She is also survived by dear friends, Norma Carollo and Ann Gniady, and special niece, Elaine Jackson. The family would like to extend their special thanks to Notre Dame Hospice, her doctors, and all her caregivers: Zola, Leslie, Chelsea, Myletta, Nish, Peaches, as well as granddaughters—Christy, Cory, and Quinn—who took care of their Granny.
