Margaret Ann Cathey Fincher, 90, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024. She is now walking streets of Gold with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, on June 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Henry Alexander Cathey, Jr., and the late Minnie Bee White Cathey.
While earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Education at Auburn University, she met W. John Fincher, Jr., and they married April 1, 1955. He passed away on September 22, 1997.
A world traveler, Margaret visited more than 50 countries with her favorite traveling companion, her late sister, Alexandria Cathey Gressette. She often reminisced about the places they had seen together and the things they had done. She also loved books, and she was interested in other people and their lives.
Margaret dedicated her life to public service. Following her graduation from Auburn, for 12 years she taught elementary school in Birmingham, Alabama. For 37 years, she taught generations of students' business courses in public and private schools in New Orleans, Louisiana, including at Abramson High School. While teaching, she earned a Masters of Education Degree from the University of New Orleans. She was also a deaconess and faithful member of Faith Church, formerly Word of Faith Church, and she was active in many civic, business, and political organizations.
Margaret is survived by her son, John Richard Fincher (Brenda Fincher), son, Joseph Michael Fincher (Shana Fincher), daughter, Judy Darlene Fincher Atilano and son, James Andrew Fincher (Julie Fincher); granddaughter, Rachel Fincher Brazzell (Steven Brazzell), and great-grandchildren, Isabelle Brazzell, Elisa Brazell, Alsandare Brazzell, Johnna Brazzell, and Nathaniel Brazzell; grandson, Micah John Fincher (Emily Villar), and great-granddaughter, Emma Ann Fincher; granddaughter, Danielle Fincher Schkade (Heston Schkade), and great-grandsons, Jayce Schkade and Nolan Schkade; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Richardson; granddaughter, Jennifer Atilano and her fiancé, Brandin Busch, and great-grandson, Miles Busch; granddaughter, Marissa Atilano and her fiancé, Christopher Matteson, and great-granddaughter, Cecilia Matteson-Atilano; grandson, Ian Fincher; grandson, Isaac Fincher and his fiancé, Claire Evans; granddaughter, Julianne Fincher; grandson, Sean Black (Brandi Black), and great-grandchildren, Aiden Rupp and Gillian Rupp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret joins her beloved grandson, Christopher Farrell, in heaven.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,
1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation on Wednesday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
Interment to follow in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY.
