Marlene Cowan Rice, 89, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at home in Covington. She was born May 1,1936 to Betty Jane Cowan Nores and Edmond Francis Nores Jr. in New Orleans, Louisiana and was the oldest of six siblings.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, William Anthony 'Bill' Stewart; her second husband, Billy Rice; and sister Lynne Gulino.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Edwards (Robert); brothers, Edmond F. Nores III (Melody), Michael Nores (Jennifer), Robert Nores; and a sister, Margaret Miller. She is the beloved 'Mummy' of grandson, Roland William Sharpe; granddaughters, Celeste Maria Karel (Nicholas), Amy Edwards, and Sara McClelland; and great-grandchildren, Coen, Harper, Lilliana, Natalie and Quentin. She is also survived by and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her.
She was a long-time parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and sang for many years in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister in the Nursing Home Ministry. She retired from the Highland Park Independent School System in Dallas, Texas where she was administrative assistant to the principal. She graduated from Metairie High School.
Visitation is at 10 A.M. Thursday, May 28, 2026, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd. in Slidell, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 A.M.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
