Obituary

Max R. Sanders, Sr., of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Greenbriar Community Care Assisted Living Center in Slidell, on Sunday, July 21, 2024., at the age of 85.

Max was born on March 7, 1939, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Floyd and Lizzie Sanders, and grew up in Ringold, Louisiana, until moving to New Orleans with his family as a teenager. He graduated from Nichols State University in Thibodaux in 1962 with a BA in Business Administration, and then embarked on a devoted career of 37 years with Texaco Oil Company as a marketing representative, working across the New Orleans region, then on to Atlanta, Georgia and finally in Houston, Texas, where he retired.

After retirement, Max and his beloved wife Myra moved back to Louisiana to enjoy many happy years together in Slidell.  Max was a passionate sports fan and a devoted, lifelong supporter of both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the LSU Tigers.  Max enjoyed cooking, entertaining family and friends at home, and was well known for his outgoing personality.  Max possessed a gift for being able to engage in conversations with anyone and everyone, truly never meeting a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Myra Rahm Sanders; sons, Max Sanders Jr. (Lori), Ron Sanders, and Guy Gordon; granddaughter, Kacie Sanders; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Sanders, Sylvia Murphy (Shelby); niece, Deena Sanders; nephews, Harvey Sanders, and Jimmy Fabre; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, and  other relatives.
