Michael M. Terry, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana, died July 18, 2024 following a lengthy illness. He was 79 years old. He was born in New Orleans, the son of the late Maurice Terry and Maeceil Peterson Terry.
Michael attended Louisiana Tech University, graduating with an electrical engineering degree. Following his service in the U. S. Army, he joined Louisiana Power and Light Company, now Entergy Corporation. He worked as an engineer specializing in communications, becoming a Chief Engineer and Architect designing multi statewide area trunking radio networks. He authored numerous papers on rf technology. After his retirement from Entergy, he was a consultant for several corporations, traveling throughout the United States resolving communication problems.
He played drums in a drum and bugle corps, he ran marathons, and loved exploring national parks, especially those out west. For many years he hiked the difficult bright angel trail in the Grand Canyon every spring and fall. He was an excellent photographer, maintaining his own dark room until he grudgingly accepted digital cameras.
He is survived by his children, Michelle Terry Ellis (Mark), David Mire (Jennifer) and Stephen Mire; his grandchildren, Emily, Stephanie, Gus, Jasper and Escher; his brother, Jack Terry (Sandra) and his sister, Jane Terry Thurman.
He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans following a private family service.
