Obituary

Michele Marie Estopinal Szymankiewicz passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the age of 69. She was a native of New Orleans and longtime resident of Lacombe, La.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Szymankiewicz; her parents, June and Donald Estopinal; and her brothers, Richard and John Estopinal. Michele is survived by her daughter, Sarah Cooper (Mark) of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Claire Cooper, Katherine Cooper, John-Paul Cooper and Leo Cooper all of Edmond, OK; siblings, Suzanne Burgard (David) of Metairie, LA, David Estopinal of Metairie, LA, Jolie Harris (Rodney) of River Ridge, LA, and Annette Estopinal of Metairie, LA; nieces and nephews; Stephanie Burgard Young (Keith), Stacy Burgard Brower (PJ), Brian Harris (Adley), Rachel Harris Kamlade (Ryan), Greg Harris (Katie), Chris Harris and a host of  great-nieces and nephews. She loved her daughter and grandchildren with all her heart and soul and always said how proud she was of them.

Michele graduated from Archbishop Chapelle High School, Metairie, La. She loved her church parish of St. John Of The Cross in Lacombe, La. where she led the cleaning committee for many years and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Michele loved sports. Particularly, watching tennis champion Rafael Nadal, or Rafa as she lovingly referred to him. She would wake at 4am to see him play in a tournament. She also loved watching Tiger Woods play golf. And, of course, she was a very big Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara and New Orleans Saints football fan. Michele was a selfless and kind person as well as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Thank you to all who befriended her and who helped her whenever she was in need. You will all be blessed for your care and kindness. Special thanks to Paula Powell, a special friend who helped Michele through the loss of her husband, and Carl Causby, a dear friend of Raymond, who helped Michele bring flowers to Raymond's grave. Their kindness will forever be remembered by those of us who loved Michele.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Michele Estopinal Szymankiewicz's name to St. Michael's Special School, 1522 Chippewa Street, New Orleans, La 70130, or to St. John of The Cross Church.
