Oliver Joseph Meyer, Jr, age 79 years, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Beloved husband of Kathleen Smith Meyer. Father of Michelle M. Fitzpatrick, Jeffrey J. Meyer (Kimi), and Nathaniel O.J. Meyer. Stepfather of Michelle Shafer (John) and Alan Williams (Kecia). Son of the late Oliver J. Meyer, Sr., and Melanie Frey Evans. Brother of Melanie M. Meyer, Ann Fitzpatrick Leache, Barry Meyer, Peggy Meyer Persack and the late Madeline Meyer Blanchard. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, McKenzie Meyer, Madison Meyer, Courtney Thompson, Landon Meyer, Lilly Meyer, Brianna Galeas, Kristen Hanrahan, Haley Shafer, Brian Hanrahan, Mike Hanrahan, Emily Shafer, Brent Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
A native of and longtime resident of New Orleans, he served in the U.S. Airforce during the Vietnam era. He was a Carpenter and owned a stained glass studio in Slidell for many years. Oliver was a member of the VFW Post 5735, a parishioner at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church and a proud member of A.A. for 43 years and was an inspiration to many. He was a cancer survivor from 1995 and participated in the Relay for Life program for many years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST, Slidell, LA., on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 11:00 A.M.
Interment, with military honors, will be at 12:30 p.m. at the Southeast La. Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA.
Visitation on Wednesday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
Donations to St. Jude's Hospital, General service office of A.A., Salvation Army, Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) or the Shriners Hospital preferred, in lieu of flowers.
