Richard Travis
Dubuisson
Oct 16, 1934 — Jul 20, 2025
Slidell
Richard "Dickey" Dubuisson, a lifelong resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home at Azalea Estates on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 90.
Richard was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Simon Peter and Lura Mary Pichon Dubuisson. Four months after his birth, his father passed away. Richard was raised on Bayou Liberty Road alongside his five siblings.
He served his country in the United States Army, spending most of his two-year enlistment in Germany. There, he worked as both a Petroleum Supply Specialist and a Dispatch Clerk for the Motor Pool.
Upon returning home, Richard met and married Dorothy Jean Goins of Shreveport, Louisiana, on October 11, 1959. They shared 59 wonderful years of marriage until Dorothy's passing on August 10, 2018.
Richard had a long career as a welder in various shipyards throughout the Slidell and New Orleans areas. After retiring, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into starting his own recycling business.
His greatest passion in life was fishing. Richard spent every possible moment on the water, whether it was for pleasure or to provide for his family. Later in life, when he could no longer fish, he became an avid football fan, cheering passionately for his beloved LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.
Known to many in the Slidell community, Richard was a friendly and outgoing gentleman who always had a story to tell, a fish tale to share, or a piece of wisdom to impart.
He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Dubuisson and Jody Dubuisson Johnson; and his siblings, Janet Bourgeois, Hal Stratton, Pam Levy, and Kevin Stratton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Gardina.
Following his wishes, Richard will be cremated and his ashes will be interned at Honaker Forrest Lawn Cemetery and Dubuisson Cemetery in Slidell. No services will be held.
