Royce "Biggie"
Mcmanus
Feb 27, 1930 — Mar 12, 2025
Slidell
Royce J. "Biggie" McManus, 95, a native and lifelong resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Slidell.
Royce was born, along with his twin brother, on February 27, 1930, in Slidell, to Charles and Mary Trasok McManus. After serving alongside his twin in the U.S. Navy, he married Nettie Jean Gomez at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Slidell in 1952.
Royce was preceded in death by his wife of "43 years, 9 months, and 5 days", Nettie Jean Gomez McManus; two brothers, Charles McManus and Roy McManus (his twin brother); and sisters, Mary McManus and Annie McManus.
He is survived by four children, Mark McManus, Brad McManus (Arlene), Melissa McManus, and Shawn McManus (Heather); five grandchildren, Grayson McManus, Mariel Thames, Whitney McManus, Breana McManus, and Ian McManus; and great-grandchildren, Luke Rost, Reagan Leftwich, and Matthew Campbell III.
Royce was raised on the vast wooded property which later became and has long been known as the "Slidell Truck Stop" at Gause Blvd. and I-10. He grew up hunting and fishing and his love of the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life, evolving into hours spent daily in his yard, even after working all day, cultivating and caring for his flower beds. While not having the opportunity to play organized sports as a youth, Royce was known for his one-legged squats as a young adult and spent untold hours working with his children to ensure they excelled at their sports. And although Royce lived the last quarter of his long life in disabled state, he still worked in his yard from his wheelchair or scooter, and his happy, friendly, joyful demeanor remained and was willingly shared with all who knew and/or cared for him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 400 Westchester Blvd, Slidell, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00am followed by the Mass at 11:00am. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.
