With her family by her side, Sandra Kay Waltermire Smith, 84, a longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana, and a resident of Meridian, Mississippi, for the past 21 years, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Slidell.

She was a longtime educator who taught Math in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, enriching the lives of countless young people. She was an active member of Central United Methodist church in Meridian, where she was a member of Sunday School, Tuesday morning Bible study, XYZ prayer group and donated hand knitted afghans and prayer shawls. She was an active volunteer in her community. She dedicated her time to Soule Steam Museum, The Jimmy Rogers Museum, and ushered at the Riley Center of Performing Arts. Sandra spent countless hours and years transporting disabled Veterans from Meridian to the Jackson’s VA Hospital, going over and beyond duty to care for our Soldiers. She found great joy in gathering around the table to play cards with her family and share stories of life, laughter, and love, moments that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Sandra was born August 6, 1942, in Shamrock, Texas, to Robert and Fay Waltermire. In 1965 she married Steve C. Smith in Denton, Texas. In 1975, the couple moved to Slidell.

She is survived by three children, Sabina Davis (Bob), Chad Smith (Sherry), Selena Gordon (Ben); ten grandchildren; Kole, Sean Jr., Alee, Kayla, Joshua, Ben Jr., Cara, Steven, Jacob and Lucas; and several Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve C. Smith; a son, Sean Smith; her sister, Linda Gayle Wood, and her Great-Granddaughter, Nora Smith.

Graveside services will be held for the family at Honaker Funeral Home at 1751 Gause Boulevard West, Slidell Louisiana 70460 on Monday November 9, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at 136 Chantilly Loop, Pearl River, Louisiana 70452.

Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
